The Iran–U.S.relationship has long been a central issue in foreign policy and media representation regionally and globally. As an Iranian state‑affiliated outlet in the Arab world, Al‑Alam News Network plays a significant role in the discursive portrayal of this relationship. News headlines, as the first element of any report, carry substantial semantic and ideological weight and are crucial in shaping public opinion. This study conducts a critical discourse analysis of Al‑Alam's Arabic headlines concerning the2025 Iran–U.S. negotiations.Adopting a qualitative approach grounded in Van Dijk's framework, the research examines30Arabic headlines from the network's official website, with10prominent ones selected for in‑depth analysis. Findings reveal that roughly two‑thirds of the headlines adopt a formal, diplomatic tone.In nearly60%of cases, Iran is represented as an active, decision‑making agent, whereas U.S.agency is either omitted or downplayed in over75%of the headlines. Additionally, about40%employ impersonal or passive constructions, and in25%,the role of Oman or the negotiation venue(Muscat)is foregrounded. These patterns indicate that impersonal/passive structures and spatial emphasis are among the most recurrent linguistic strategies.A comparison between the Arabic headlines and their Persian translations shows that, although the formal tone and linguistic authority are moderated in roughly70%of the Persian versions through lexical and structural simplification, the overarching discourse orientation, representation of Iran's agency, and ideological framework remain intact. These findings suggest that even at the most concise linguistic level, headlines carry ideological orientations, and translation can either reproduce or moderate them. Overall, the differences between the two versions are primarily stylistic and expressive, without affecting the macro‑structure of meaning or discursive direction.
