In contemporary conflicts, media are not merely transmitters of reality but active constructors of dominant narratives. The interaction between official and unofficial accounts can substantially amplify persuasive impact. This study examines the persuasive function of two widely circulated videos of the Tajrish explosion: the CCTV footage released by the national broadcaster (IRIB) and an amateur citizen video that spread across social media platforms. The central research question concerns how the simultaneous dissemination of these two visual narratives shaped public perception.
The study employs a qualitative approach, drawing on content analysis, semiotics, and discourse analysis. Data collection involved repeated viewing and systematic coding of the visual and auditory elements in both videos. The findings indicate that the CCTV footage, by objectively recording the moment of the explosion, strengthened the credibility of the official narrative. In contrast, the citizen video, by portraying victims and emotional reactions, heightened fear and empathy. Together, the two videos produced a multilayered and compelling narrative one that combined official documentation with emotional resonance.
The study concludes that in the arena of narrative warfare, the synchronization of official and citizen-generated sources can mutually reinforce one another and create a more convincing narrative. These insights offer important implications for media policymakers, suggesting that exclusive reliance on official narratives is insufficient and that integrating citizen content can enhance public trust.
